China, on September 10, announced an innovative three-year action plan aimed at propelling its metaverse industry into the forefront of technological innovation. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), in collaboration with four other key departments, released a comprehensive plan that outlines a strategic roadmap for the years 2023 to 2025.
The plan’s core objective is to harness cutting-edge metaverse technologies and establish robust industrial systems to catalyze growth within the sector. By 2025, the nation aspires to achieve substantial breakthroughs in metaverse technologies, industries, applications, and other critical areas, thereby positioning the metaverse as a pivotal driver of economic expansion in the digital realm.
One of the plan’s ambitious aims is to cultivate and nurture three to five metaverse-related companies with global influence. This strategic move not only underscores China’s commitment to leadership in the metaverse but also highlights its aspiration to play a central role in shaping the global metaverse landscape. Furthermore, the plan seeks to establish three to five industry cluster districts dedicated to the metaverse by 2025, fostering localized innovation hubs.
